Experiential Learning Program Harvard SEAS

The program is designed to mirror the primary disciplines in the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

About

Engineering and applied sciences at Harvard has a long and distinguished history at Harvard, beginning with the creation of the Lawrence Scientific School in 1847 (named for donor Abbott Lawrence). Through collaboration with researchers from all parts of Harvard, other universities, and industry, the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) brings discovery and innovation directly to bear on improving human life and society in the 21st century.

In the summer of 2012, IEG Global formed a partnership with Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and launched its first experiential summer program for high school students under the leadership of Dr. Fawwaz Habbal. This inaugural program marked a significant milestone for the organization and laid the foundation for the development of future residential initiatives. It established a model of immersive, university-level learning that continues to shape IEG Global’s academic partnerships and program design today.

…innovative educational approaches are needed to create the future leaders who will solve them.

– Dr. Fawwaz Habbal, Harvard

“When I was about to enter the summer vacation of my senior year, I came across the Harvard SEAS Program with IEG. This was such a great opportunity of getting into such prestigious university and taking these courses, learning from different professors about the future development of science, and having the opportunities of the hands-on experiments in the labs. Also, I got the chance to meet people from all over the world!

What impressed me the most was the way of teaching. Almost every professor said “feel free to interrupt me” in class. Students were highly encouraged to ask questions or their own ideas during the class. I felt that what I had learned the most was to have the courage to discuss my unique ideas with others. I believed that this journey in Harvard would shed light on the direction in my life.”

“We learned a lot from other teams’ performances, our own presentations, and feedback from the judges. I do think it was a valuable experience as it showed how a formal business-related competition should be like, to high school students.”
